There still is a bug in the software. When creating borders the image needs to be resized by 2x border width in height and 2x border width for width. So the outer dimensions match the necessary dimensions. Instead the image remains 1x border width too large in height. Also on both the right and upper side a small gap is created when using borders. So on the (for me) 3rd layer the printer starts printing "2 areas" while only 1 layer should cover the whole area.
It will depend on the photo. There are very few Photos the REQUIRE more than 8 colors. But you might need to add a lot more to the Mesh Core to get the match right, then use smart tricks to reduce the count on the Color Core side.
