As I near release, I am trying to find a good deployment platform which supports the various options I want to offer. But I wonder if my options are just too many. I’d appreciate a response on which option YOU would choose.
I’m planning to offer 3 tiers. All prices here are good for the first 30 days after release. I will be revisiting prices as more features go in (Expect yearly prices to go up $20). Your price will be good for you for at least the first year.
Personal User ($10-15)
You get HueForge with no continuing fees for personal use. This is a one time payment, not annual. You will get immediate bug fix updates and eventual feature updates as new features are developed, tested, and found useful by the other tiers. Access to Discord server dedicated to HueForge.
Commercial User ($5/month or $30-40/year for the first year (includes HueForge in the $30-40 option))
This adds rights to sell prints of files generated from HueForge (no rights to sell digital files), access to a curated filament library which will be updated over time with quality metrics, early access to new features and input into which features should be priority for implementation, and some example projects each month to explore the tool’s capabilities. Access to Commercial section of Discord server
Pro User ($10/month or $80-90/year for the first year. (Includes HueForge with the $80-90 option))
Adds rights to sell STL files generated from HueForge to others.
What Would You Choose?
I like looking, but I’m not interested in buying. I might want a demo to play with
I would be interested in a subscription for models generated in HF, I don’t want to make my own
One payment of $10-15 for Personal User
One payment of $10-15 and $5/month Commercial User
I would pay $30-40 up front for Commercial User
I would pay $10-15 + $10/month for Pro User
I would pay $80-90/year for Pro User
I would pay $$ for a lifetime license. How much would you pay for the tier you want?
Update: All tiers can be upgraded minus the original price for a timeframe (6 months maybe). So you can absolutely get 3 and later upgrade to 5 if you find a market.
I would very much appreciate your vote in the comments below (no poll is really supported on Substack). This will help me plan much better on what platform to use for deployment.
As others have said, I would prefer a one-time purchase, and for the personal tier that is perfect. This would include the application and support via Discord/email.
For the commercial tiers it would be more complicated. I think a one-time fee that includes like 1 year of support, updates, and access to the filament library. Then people can have an option to subscribe for continued access to support, new features and the filament library. I added support here because commercial users would most likely need support more often than a personal user.
As for me, I would most likely go for option 5. Oh, and I don't like the "Engaged User" name. Maybe just Personal, Commercial, Pro. :)
No subscription please. I'd like to pay for the software once. You could even do something for a low cost non commercial use, and a more expensive commercial license.
